There is a new page on the website for advertising the sale by club members of croquet related items. You can find the page under Club Info - Membership.
The webmaster is currently surrounded by water in France and until he returns in mid June the lawn information on this website is out of date. Members should check at the club instead.

AC and GC tournaments for players of B level standard were played over this last weekend in pleasant weather and on Sunday strong sunshine.
The golf croquet event was an all-play-all block of 15 players which meant for quite a bit of play and the tournament did unfortunately overrun the usual ending time somewhat.
It was nice to see 3 players from Latvia taking part; they, together with 2 players from Spain, were participants in the WCF GC coaching Course which was run by SCCC earlier in the week, so they had a chance to put their improved skills into practice.
The winner, winning 13 out of 14 games was Paul Gunn, so congratulations to him! Runner-up was Christopher Heath with 12 wins and by chance (since the players were in random order) the last game of the tournament was between the two of them so we had a real final. We have a new (for this tournament) trophy now and this was presented to Paul, together with an engraved whisky glass to keep.
This is a qualifying event for the National B Level Series and the first four players are notified in order to the Director for further rounds. They are: Paul Gunn (13 wins) , Christopher Heath (12 wins), David Gaitley (10 wins) and Andrea Huxley (10 wins).
Full results are laid out below.
The AC event had 18 players which is a very good number and was organised as a knockout competition with a progressive swiss comsolation event, arrnaged such that all players had 5 games.
The winner of the main trophy was Alex Jardine who beat Sandy Greig in the final. The winner of the consolation event was Neil Coote with 4 wins in 5 games. Congratulations to Alex and Neil.
Further pictures to follow. If any player has a good one and would like it here, please send it to the webmaster!

Hi
Just a few notes on the very busy month of May!
You will have noticed from the calendar and the Academy lawn use (both on our website) that May is busy!
This week we host members of the WCF from various other countries for academy courses.
Tomorrow and Wednesday there will be only 4 lawns available for members- so a lot of doubling up necessary, even if you are playing a club comp. perhaps . On Saturday and Sunday 7th and 8th there are two tournaments taking place- so very little lawn space available for other use. Saturday night is a theme dinner- there are spaces still, so do come and meet some of our WCF visitors. Let Jonathan know if you are coming.
On the 14th May (Saturday) there will be only two lawns available for members due to a large group of Basketmakers having a Corporate Day with us.
And, the major event (probably of the year!) is the AC Intercounties Championship from 28th to 31st May, when no lawns are available until play finishes for the day.
Do come and watch and volunteer to help at the intercounties- it is a great event.
A parking problem- when both clubs are busy we do have parking issues. Now the grass is dry- please park right up to the hedge and well on to the grass by lawn 9. Also PLEASE leave a space by the grass stores so that other cars can go through and out that way. Too much manoeuvring to turn round can cause (and has caused) issues with other cars. There is space in the roads around the club to park free- even if it isn’t as convenient.
Hopefully we will have a good May- I gather the weather is set to get hotter at the end of the week- at last!
Liz

The next few weeks are very, very busy with Academy workshops and coaching plus other events and the start of our club internal matches and also league games being fixed. We actually take part in 6 different leagues with some leagues having two teams taking part. We also have 5 CA interclub competitions. Even though we have 11 lawns this can sometimes be a matter of juggling! Especially as the hoop setters have to be busy and the groundsman also has work to do!
To help you plan when you come down please be mindful of the following notes.
Lawn priority:
1)Academy and tournaments
2)Leagues and CA interclub competitions where we host other clubs.
3) GC afternoons on Tuesdays and Thursdays; AC morning on Wednesdays
4) Internal competition games where whites are worn.
5) All other games and practice.
I attach a list that shows you which lawns will be in use by the Academy on which days.
There is also a calendar in the verandah room where info gets added. If you book an internal game for one of our competitions, please check the calendar and enter it in pencil.
League captains, please book only two lawns. If others are free when you play, then you can certainly use an extra lawn.
There is sometimes space on Weds am, but rarely on Tuesday and Thursday pm, so do avoid these. We did have 48 people down today in the afternoon, so you can see how busy it can get!
If you have problems fitting matches in for club comps, please discuss with Clive, Liz or Jonathan.
Available lawns are indicated on the whiteboard in the corridor and also on the blackboard in the corridor.
We do want everyone to have a great croquet season. In June it eases off a bit.

We are sorry to annouce the death of Barbara Kitching.
Barbara was a great stalwart of the club for many years being one of the leaders in the kitchen as well as enjoying her golf croquet. Brian & Barbara ran the corporate activities for several years and made it an important revenue stream for the club.
She will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with Brian & his family at this sad time.
